Amazing turnout at the Watershed for our screening and discussion of The Lighthouse! For the first time, we managed to sell out the 200 seats of Cinema 1. Special thanks to the +50 UWE students who joined us. If you've missed it, check our the last blog post by our Georgia Harrison.
"Their opposing approaches to their faith and political ideologies mirror that of contemporary society. What is revealed is that even those appointed to provide a path to their flock also struggle to know the way". From Georgia Harrison's blog post on our discussion around The Two Popes.
"I believe Landes is trying to ensure that the audience can connect with the story on any level; so that they can feel that their voice is being heard. Which thus brings forth the beauty of the anonymity. It could be us. It could be you". From Georgia Harrison's (second-year philosophy student at UWE) post on our discussion around Monos.
For Sama has left everyone speechless. Thankfully, Ammar and Razan helped kindly us comprehend a little more the meaning and context of these images, which are unforgettable. Thanks who those who enriched the conversation with their very insightful questions and comments.

Our first film night was a sell out! More than 100 people showed up to watch and discuss Utøya along with our speakers (see pictures below). Thanks everyone. See you on 4 December for our second screening.
Great discussion following the screening of Disobedience. Thanks again to those who joined us. Watershed moved us to their biggest screen!
Another sell-out at our third instalment (Vice)! So good to see so many students from both UWE and UoB showing up and joining the conversation.
"For me, there were three themes. The first is that [the protagonist] does not exist (without papers/not recognised); the second is the concept of childhood and what you expect to be a normal childhood - once you define it, how do you then protect a child? And the third is migration” - Noëlle Quénivet commenting on Capernäum during our last film instalment.
“Lazzaro is never the protagonist of the story, he is always called by others - as if Lazzaro needs to be evoked, like an abstract figure” - Francesco Tava commenting on Happy as Lazzaro during our fifth instalment.
We had a great end of season with High Life. Amazing speakers and, once again, a very good turnout. Thanks everybody for staying with us and coming up with so many great questions and comments. See you all again in October! Further info regardning next year's season will soon become available.
